So! Provided you can figure out how to do it (there's an instructions section, I had to read it XD), NASA is holding Mission Madness in honor of basketball's March Madness. Go vote for Hubble your favorite missions!

And now for something random and totally not actually scientific:

Pepsi is clearly the pinnacle of the universe!

(Personally, I think they should have referenced the COBE dipole map of the CMB, that would've really clinched their argument!)

So, in case you don't know, 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy! (Yay!) As a special event commemorating this year, there's a neat "contest" that NASA is holding to decide the next object it will look at! (Though I wonder how well this is going to go over, if Hubble is still the walking orbiting dead...) But anyway, you can choose from a list of objects Hubble has never observed before and enter a drawing for one of 100 new Hubble pictures of the winning object. Vote by March 1st!

Click here!

As a side note, one of the postdocs claims that at least one of the targets has been observed before, but I suppose it really doesn't matter all that much in the end. ^^;

I saw this the other day and thought it was pretty interesting. It's an article on how quantum entanglement - the idea that two particles can be so closely connected via quantum physics that changes in one instantaneously affect the other - might actually dissolve under some conditions.

ENTANGLEMENT SUDDEN DEATH! D<

Craziness!

Okay, so this is much later than I'd hoped, but I did it! Finally. :D;;

The Pioneer Anomaly! )

Next up... I have no idea. XD Maybe something random and exciting? Either that or an explanation of X-ray point sources, because I cannot escape them. XD;

Okay. I know I'm still way behind and owe Adam a Pioneer Anomaly post (which I really will try to get to soon!), but in the meantime, this is freaking awesome. :O

While I take a brief break at work here, have the latest XKCD comic, which is actually a pretty amusing good illustration of just how far things are from Earth:

Um! So welcome to my science blog, as it were. :D

First off, in commemoration of the Large Hadron Collider that just went online not long ago, a couple of nifty links:

The Large Hadron Rap - everything you wanted to know about the LHC, in an amusing YouTube rap video!

And the Particle Zoo, for all your plushie particle needs~ XD (I so want a Higgs Boson!)

Right. So, down to business. I figured I would start out with something very basic: light. This is going to take a couple of entries, I've realized. So I'll just start and go from there?

Part I: I can see you~ )
